Acupuncture is a gentle form of medicine that works with the electrical energy of the body (called Qi). It uses hair-thin, stainless steel needles to activate specific points along energetic pathways. This process elicits physiological changes that influence the production of endorphins, prostaglandins (the building-blocks of proteins) and hormones. It can also increase blood circulation and calm nervous system responses.
One way to think about acupuncture is to imagine a string of holiday lights. Often the connections between a bulb and the electrical wiring come loose and either the entire string goes out, or only some of the lights work. The job of the acupuncturist is to determine where and how the electrical connection was lost, and to get it working again.
Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine hold at its core the understanding that the physical, emotional and spiritual bodies are connected. Often patients experience a beneficial shift not only in physical symptoms, but in how they experience life. It is useful for many different conditions, including pain, immune dysfunction, fertility and menstruation issues, hormone deregulation and stress-related illnesses.
